Professional Engineering Portfolio for Faheem Azad

About
me

Hello. My name is Faheem Azad and I have graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Riverside. I was able to provide assistance as an engineer within a machine shop at my former location. I currently work at UPS as a BaSE (Building and Systems Engineering) Specialist.

I have extensive experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. I was able to use SolidWorks for my senior design project as well as during my previous employment with Bender CCP. I created an assembly for a hand wheel feed for a device for my former employer and I ordered the parts and materials that were needed to create the assembly. I gave the drawings for this assembly and the specific parts to the machine shop as well as the ordered parts so the assembly was able to be created. I have used plenty of MATLAB within my schooling. A project I was involved in required creating a code that could compute the Finite Element Method. I also have many skills including teamwork, efficient time management and communication skills, and efficient project management. During my current employment with UPS, I have experience working with PLCs and AC/DC troubleshooting. I have been required to look through electrical drawings and interpret these drawings to discover failures within the system. I have been required to assist in preventive maintenance as well as inspecting large motors, pulleys, and bearings.

Projects

Senior Design Project - Autonomous Robot

Objective:

The scope of the project involved creating a robot that could autonomously navigate terrain with sensors for obstacle avoidance. The robot needed to be able to store objects as it was made to be a design of a “delivery robot.”

University of California, Riverside
September 2023 - March 2024

Outcome:

The robot was able to detect objects and avoid them by redirecting itself. The autonomous robot was able to turn to a different direction and drive into that direction. The SolidWorks drawings were used within the reports and presentations. Overall, the project was very successful.

My Role:

During this project, I was involved in contributing to every report as well as assisted in connecting the wiring within the robot. I took the responsibility of creating an assembly of the robot in SolidWorks while also creating a part of the tracked mode of transportation. I created parts for all of the inner components in SolidWorks including the ultrasonic sensors, batteries, motors, circuitboard, and more. I made a simulation that had an applied force at the ends of the tracked system to see the effects of the stress on the tracks.
